How do I display my product in 3D?
The interactive display of a 3D model for your product is now possible on almost all devices. It has the following advantages:
- 3D representations are very understandable and show all aspects of a product
- The user is engaged very quickly as they can interact directly with the product by rotating and zooming.
- 3D models are often easy to obtain as they are already used in the product development process.
- Changing product parts, colors and materials can be easily displayed
- The product can be shown in the user's environment using augmented reality
Requirements
- You have created a configurator.
- You have opted for a 3D view when creating the configurator (otherwise you can change this in the settings).
- You have the models in GLB format.
Upload 3D models
- Open the editor of your configurator.
- Click on Loading...in the sidebar.
- Click Loading....
- Click on Loading....
- Click on Loading....
- Select your 3D model.
- The model is now displayed. You can change the Name, Position, Rotation and Scaling. This is important if you are using several models and want to position them in relation to each other. The simpler way is usually to do this in your 3D software and upload the models correctly positioned.
- The name of the file and its size are displayed next to the "Select" button. Large models cause a long wait when starting the configurator, so try to keep the models as small as possible, keep the models as small as possible. The maximum size is limited to 8 MB per model.
- Switch on Main model if it is your Umgebungsmodell.
- Switch on Background model if this model should not be displayed in augmented reality.
- Under material-upload you can specify that materials from the model should be exported to your Configurator should be exported. You can then change and replace them later.
- You can specify that the model casts shadows and/or receives shadows
- Click on Loading....
- Please be patient for a moment. First the model is uploaded, then analyzed and all materials are extracted.
- The model now appears in the list.
- Click on Loading...in the sidebar.
- All materials from the model are also available there.
Dynamic models
Display other models depending on a selection.
If there is a selection characteristic whose values determine the model displayed, proceed as follows:
- Switch to Loading...in the sidebar.
- Switch to the correct tab and click on the pencil icon behind the feature name.
- Switch to the Actions tab.
- Check the Display 3D model box
- Click on Loading....
- You will now see the table with the selection values in front of you. There is now a Models column.
- Now select the model to be displayed for each value.
- You will see the result immediately in the editor.
- Click on Loading....
Display other models depending on several selections.
If the display of the models is more complicated and depends on several features (e.g. a color selection and a product type selection), then start with one of the features as above. If necessary, you can also assign models if this is appropriate. Then continue as follows:
- Switch to Loading...in the sidebar.
- Search for the rule with the name of your characteristic and the addition "modelAction".
- Click on Loading.... You will now see the rule that was created for the first characteristic. You can now simply add further characteristics to this rule
- Click on Loading....
- Click in the Loading...field under Characteristic combinations
- Select the remaining features that determine the model display.
- Click on Loading....
- The rule now contains a column for each characteristic and a column for the model.
- You can now select the correct model for each combination of characteristics.
Move models
If two or more models are displayed, they must be positioned correctly in relation to each other. There are three methods to achieve this.
-
The easiest is to instruct your 3D modeler to export the submodels with matching coordinates. Then you don't have to do anything else.
-
If this is not possible, you can always specify a shift, a rotation and also an enlargement/reduction when uploading a model.
-
Sometimes the position depends on what the user has selected. In the case of a two-part cabinet, for example, the position of the wall unit depends on the height of the base unit. In this case, proceed as follows:
- Open the editor and create the situation you want to change.
- Click on Loading...
- Now you can simply move the models using the tools displayed.
- Click on the diskette to save or the cross to cancel.
-
Finally, you cannot make the same change visually directly on the rules:
- Open the rule that controls the display of the model.
- If necessary, add characteristics that influence the position. To do this, click on Loading...and expand the Characteristic combination.
- Now find the line that displays the model in the situation you want to edit.
- Click on Loading...behind the selected model.
- You can now specify a shift, a rotation and also an enlargement/reduction. This only takes effect in the specified situation.
Models for product components
Example: For example, several windows can be planned in a configurator and these are in a component feature called "Window". The models for all windows should be displayed next to each other, each offset by 3m.
- The component feature is then usually included.
- Under Loading...you do not enter a number in the X position, but a Ausdruck in the X position:
Fenster.instanceIndex*3
.
