Introduction to product configuration

In this video, I explain how the K3 configurator can be used not only to customize individual products, but also to add additional parts to a product. This is demonstrated using the example of bicycle racks for an e-bike, but could also be used for wall units with additional drawers or shelves.

Creation of product components

I start by creating a new feature for e-bike accessories, specifically for bike stands. This feature is created of the type "Product components", which means that it can represent different physical parts that can be added to the main product.

Selection and customization of components

The component list is filled with two options: "round" and "square". These options specify which type of bike rack can be added. An interactive interface allows the user to decide how many and what type of stands to add to the bike.

Manipulation of the components

I show how to control the order and duplication of the added stands via drag-and-drop and copy/paste, which improves the user experience and facilitates customization. Each stand can be configured individually, which means that users can set specific attributes such as the mounting type or the presence of a foundation for each stand individually.

Visualization and rule management

To manage the components, a rule is created that controls how the stands are displayed in the 3D model of the bike. This rule makes it possible to dynamically position the stands at different positions along the bike based on their order in the configuration.

Finalization and verification

To conclude the video, I review the functionality of the components set up and show how they look integrated in the final product. This includes a detailed view of the bill of materials and the price impacted by the additional components.
